i have been all over the internet asking for help. hibiscus seed starting/planting.
yesterday i water soaked some seeds for 12 hours then today i planted them in warm water soaked soil , then covered the seed lightly with top soil. then lightly water soaked it. i have covered the seeds.
i put them in my seed starting stand.
my question is , do i leave in a warm area around 65 to 70 degrees or should i turn my heat mat on so many hours a day ?
i just need help.

Hi Harold .. Hibiscus can be a bit tricky. I get my best results from breaking the seed coat before I plant .. I use toenail clippers to do it. Considering your zone, no extra heat should be necessary. Keep the soil on the dry side of moist but do not let it dry out.

after many ways I have 23 of 48 coming up.
i nicked the seed, put them in water in the frige for 12 hours then planted.
after 6 days i started seeing green.
i did put them over a heat mat.
now they are under light no heat.

Once my seedlings of any plant get their 2nd to 3rd set of true leaves I transplant into a larger pot .. not too large though. When you transplant yours, make sure you break the peat pots vertically on the side about 8 times around so the roots can easily grow without having to punch through the peat pots.
I keep the soil on the wetter side of moist but NOT wet at first and start out with morning sun and afternoon shade. After a week or so and things are looking good, I increase the sun time until it's essentially all day. All hibiscus like full sun for a minimum of 7 - 8 hours and damp feet.

some of my hibiscus plants are getting there 2nd and some have there 3rd set of leaves, so i think its time to move them to bigger pots.
i have some that are not growing just sitting there being green. do some take longer to grow than others ?
have to post photos later, will not work for some reason.

Yes, that's not unusual .. a bit of food might kick start them.
