By Shelly

BE CAREFUL. It kills any plant it comes into contact with. Use 1 part vinegar, 1 tablespoon soap, and 1 part water.

But if you use it in a pump sprayer, be sure to rinse it out well and run a little baking soda solution through it to help neutralize any residual acid. Smiling

I use a sprayer as I prefer white vinegar to Windex for cleaning windows (specifically my windshield with all the bugs & dirt). That should do the trick, I think... I'm definitely going to try it on the bindweed (http://www.ext.colostate.edu/p...) and grass in my daylily bed.

Every year I use very hot boiling water with a lot of salt in it and use a metal sprayer to narrow in on what area needs it, putting the nozzle right at the root area, but I think this year am going to try the vinegar. The metal sprayer gets quite hot and if it touches your skin...OUCH!

Does the vinegar change the PH of the soil when it is sprayed on the soil? How about underground in the spot where the now-dying weed is? I've only used vinegar in our gravel driveway since I wasn't sure what it would do to the PH of my garden beds.

Will this also kill poison ivy & oak?

It will probably kill a small vine - at least the visible part. You'll have to re-treat emerging shoots, I would think. I don't know if it would kill a big vine... they get pretty woody and tough. Has anyone tried it?

Well, over 2 days (Sat evening for about 4 hours) and Sunday (about 5 hours) I pulled up 2 55gal garbage bags worth of weeds. This is what I had:

Common teasel: Dipsacus fullonum
Elongated Mustard: Brassica elongata
Field Bindweed: Convolvulus arvensis (about 30gals of this alone)
Garlic Mustard: Alliaria petiolata
Hoary Cress: Cardaria draba
Jointed Goatgrass: Aegilops cylindrica
Kochia: Kochia scoparia
Mediterranean Sage: Salvia aethiopis
Moth Mullein: Verbascum blattaria
Musk Thistle: Carduus nutans (TONS of this stuff Sad )
Plumless Thistle: Carduus acanthoides
Poison Hemlock: Conium maculatum
Scotch Thistle: Onopordum acanthium (luckily not much of this)
Tansy Ragwort: Senecio jacobaea

and one other that made up about 80% of all the weeds I pulled up and I cannot find it anywhere. I have no idea what the flower looks like as I pull it immediately, but they have small spines EVERYWHERE so I'm guessing it belongs to the thistle family. BLEH!

Weeds suck.

Will it work against horseweed? Seriously, I see more horseweed than dandelions in my neighborhood!
