By LarryR
March 18, 2012

It can't be long now! For those of us who garden in temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere, spring is just around the corner. While we gardeners anxiously await that magical time of year, come join me for one final look at what's blooming indoors. You'll also discover the identity of the mystery flower for February, who identified it, and what the mystery flower for this month looks like.

It's a beautiful vine; too bad I can't grow it here!

Woofie, I also garden in Zone5. I have my vine potted in a hanging basket and bring it indoors in the fall when the temperature drops below 50 degrees. So far, that's worked quite well, even though the vine goes semi-dormant during the winter.

Hmmm, how large a hanging basket? Does it need much light during the winter? Sigh, I always seem to end up with aphids or white flies on anything I try to bring indoors for the winter.

Right now it's in a 10-inch basket. To avoid white flies and aphids, I spray the plant with Raid House and Garden spray about a week before I bring it indoors. Then I spray it once more right before I bring it in to catch any eggs that have hatched in the interim. Spray cannot kill eggs. I don't like to use pesticides, but this is one time I make an exception.

I ordered mine here: http://www.zone9tropicals.com/.... Unfortunately, they're out of stock right now.

As our contest winner this month, you get to have one of your flower photos published in next month's article. Please send me the photo you'd like to have published.

I'd also like to let our readers know a little about you. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a few questions.

How did you come to be a gardener?
How long have you been gardening?
If you had a chance to give just one piece of advice to a beginning gardener, what would it be?
Why did you choose this particular photo for publication?
Do you have a favorite flower?
Do you grow vegetables as well?
Do you have any other hobbies?
Is there anything else you'd like readers to know about you?

If you'd like a photo of you to appear in the article as well, please send me that too. Many thanks!

Does the picture have to be something that's blooming now? 'Cause all that's blooming here right now is SNOW! Hilarious!

Hilarious!

No, it can be any time of year, as long as it's one of your favorite photos.
