I am new to this forum. I had acres of great gardens in my previous home where we lived for 35 yrs in Ontario and just bought a new house in Fort Nelson, BC. I have not had time to do anything with it yet as hubby and I are working three hours away for the summer. We came up here 6 years ago to work summers as a Park Operator in a provincial park and hubby is also a baker in a very large cafe/lodge across the highway. We have been traveling to southern BC for the winters in our RV, but sold it this past spring and bought a house up here. We love it here in the Northern Rockies!

We are hoping to retire after this summer working in the park and stay in Fort Nelson in our new house. We'll see how that goes. We both have at home income, baking for hubby and painting for me.

I have seen some great ideas here! I plan to landscape the front yard in the fall before everything freezes. There is nothing there now but a shed and a LOT of trees we are having cut down at the moment. It's a fairly small town lot, 50" x 150". I plan to put in raised beds in the backyard with wood chips between them (from all the trees being cut down) and landscape with rocks and boulders in the front, eventually losing ALL of the grass lawn. I want to put in fruit trees, grapes and herb/veggies beds this fall or next spring.

We will probably build the raised beds in the back this fall and start filling them. I have a few things to plant this fall when we are home for the winter. I have a rhubarb, some green onions, a few herbs and a couple of saskatoon berry bushes up here to transplant at season end.

Welcome Providence, sounds like you have a big project ahead of you! I love the provincial parks, always clean and well cared for.
