Yes indeed. I love to take pix and this time of the year it is not easy to find subjects that do not involve me getting cold. Runt will behave him/her self for a while indoors. So now it is a matter of finding a setting and lights.

I agree. I like the way that sideways light makes Runt's fur glow.

Runt is honored that you know him! Off topic perhaps but I am amazed by Runt. A fall kitten and a runt. Now he is healthy and happy just a bit smaller than his siblings. OK, a cutie.

Morning light can be great but do not forget about shooting into the setting sun. Same tree, different lens.

I have noticed that often I will get more true colours when taking photos in the morning or late afternoon, once the sun is no longer directly on the bloom I am trying to photograph. Of course, sometimes I want that direct sun look as well.

Here are a couple of photos I have on hand:

These are both the same plant, but under different lighting conditions. I enjoy how the direct sun seems to make the blooms darker and almost glisten, whilst the second photo (still daylight but not in direct sun) shows the colours more accurately.

Of course, if it's too late in the evening, it does tend to drain the colour (or the life) out of the bloom (for this reason, Gene, I prefer your morning photo over the evening one). I don't generally take photos at twilight unless there's something specific I want to capture.

One thing that might be affecting your results is our cameras ability to handle color. Some do AWB better than others. Biggest difference between my AM and PM pictures is that I used different lenses.

That is a good point, Gene. I use my smartphone for photos and I've noticed the AWB is one of the areas that has improved a lot over the years (I get a new phone supplied by work every few years and because it has a better camera in it than my point and shoot, I use it for photos. Latest phone - a Google Pixel 2 - even supports RAW).
