Has anyone's seed pods dried yet? Mine are still green! One broke off of the stem, so I put it in the shed. It still has the bag covering it so the seeds won't fly away. Shrug! Confused

I leave mine on the stem until they start to crack open. This has occurred between 72 and 84 days after pollination.

my pods were still pliable but brown, and i cracked it open. the seeds look mature, now what do i do with them before i send them to debee. she was the only one that responded to my post about the bee pods.

1.) do i let the seeds air dry now?

2.) how long should i let them dry.

3.) i am waiting for more bee pods to ripen, and would like to send them to her all at once.
a.) should i refrigerate them?
b.) should i just let them stay at room temp. then send all at once?
c.) i am concerned that if the seeds are sent damp, they may get moldy?

thank you for your help.

Daphne ~ Now that you have sent your seeds to someone else, or will be soon in doing so, what if they discover a superior iris? Does it now belong to them, and could they introduce it? (That, of course, is a very big "WHAT IF"!)

Evelyn, she's sending them to me, and I consider myself growing them out for her. I will post pics of the seedlings when they bloom and give proper credit to the hybridizer. I have no interest in introducing any irises, so if there's any that are noteworthy to Daphne, she is welcome to it. I'd be happy to share the seedling(s) with her or anyone else for that matter. I just love growing beautiful plants. Green Grin!

they belong to deborah, or whomever wants to grow them. ......too many hobbies, too little space and time. (just to name a few things paint[watercolor], read, knit, sew, quilt, dye, garden, golf, and yoga 3x a week, besides the mundane chores....we don't hire out ,yet ( such as house cleaning), except for house painting and cleaning two-story windows, some electrical, major plumbing, and trimming our 30' palm trees semi-annually). Hilarious!

i also groom my silky terrier. anyway, you get the picture.....many of you are busier than i. i just don't know where my day goes?

Doesn't the AIS have some formal registration rules in place about that?

The AHS (excuse me, now ADS Glare ) used to have the rule that the person who had the seedling (in their possession) when it first bloomed, had the full registration rights. (This was possibly because of the extensive selling of daylily seeds.)

I just checked the registration section of the AHS (ADS) website, and they separate out the "hybridizer" from the "registrant" (person who is registering the daylily). (I don't recall that being the case previously but I do know that some number of daylilies were registered posthumously, so the mechanism must have been in place then.) But that still begs the question as to who gets the "hybridizer" credit. If person A did the actually cross that produced the seed (they were the hybridizer in reality), but they sold the seed to person B who grew it to bloom, but then B died but C registered it, is the hybridizer now A or B? Confused

But you hopefully see my point...
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom
