This is my favorite method of carrying everything I need when gardening. I tend to use 2 pails. One as you describe & the other for dirt that comes out of the hole when you plant plants. Then I have a great big stationary bucket I dump the "extra" soil in for use whenever the need arises.

Ann, I have another multi purpose pail also, I use it for weeding, soil or whatever, they are so handy.

I really like the ones with the thick handles so they don't hurt your hands when you carry heavy stuff. Sometimes you can find the kiddie beach pails cheaper & sturdier & if they come with the little tools the little blunt shovel works well for a doggie scooper.

I have all my stuff in a little ride-on seat that has carrying space; kills two bird with one stone!!

I use the Bucket Boss tool holder made for buckets. It keeps all my tools organized in the bucket. They also sell a bucket seat lid which would probably come in useful.
The bucket pockets made by Fiskar for gardeners doesn't have pockets on the inside of the pocket like the tool ones do, so I think you could haul dirt or plants in your bucket with the tools outside.
Someone should invent a bucket with a handle and wheels like wheelie luggage for when your bucket gets too heavy. Oh my achin back...

Actually, I bought one this weekend to use for weeding... it's a 32gal I think? has wheels, handle and lid, and after I fill it I can set it out for the trash company to empty for me

I empty the smaller pail of weeds, leaves , garden clipping, etc. into the large trash bin, then we take it to our local compost lot run by the town, we do not put our garden waste in the garbage.

I actually drag around a trash bin when I'm pulling weeds...and fill it several times. It's one of the joys of living in the woods.

Me too. I've been doing this for years.

I have been using this method for a long time also, I keep the bucket in a large plastic trug where I put weeds and plants. I take them with me everywhere along with my special little shovel.

Well, I guess I am just especially dense because I never thought of doing this! It would certainly have saved lots of money for all the pruners and trowels dropped around the yard and never found until they are thoroughly rusted (after about 1 week in our Florida hot, humid weather LOL).

I shall now be in search of an appropriate bucket.
