Hello!

My ant plant is starting to develop a hole in the base. I was wondering if it was from rot, as I grow it in sphagnum and keep it damp, but the rest of the base is firm and the roots are fine. I only water with distilled water when the sphagnum gets dry.

I posted this in another forum and people said it's normal as that is from ants trying to enter. However, I grow this indoors. Butttttt I did have a little ant infestation in my room, but I did eventually poison them all so they no longer are there. Maybe they chewed this while they were alive?! Not sure what to do hahaha.

Opinions?

I've never grown this one, but it looks really interesting! I tried looking it up and found this:
"The ant plant has a bulbous, tubular base, with hollow chambers that ants colonize. It is mutually beneficial: the ants get a safe home, the ant plant has the ants to attack pests and animals, and the ant plant also gains nutrients from ant debris."

So it must form those cavities on it's own to provide ant homes. Since it's rooted and the rest seems firm, I'd leave it alone and just watch it. Keep that moss damp, but not too damp. It said if it ever dries out and wilts, just water and it'll come back just fine.

I also see that the database needs more photos when you have the time. Smiling
