Yep, I know what you mean Sue. Same thing happened to me. I finally went to bed, got up in the middle of the night and sent an email to Dave.
A fleeting thought, 'Had some one family napped them and would soon send us all a ransom note?' Crying
Then reason set in. Thumbs up
So I went back to bed. Green Grin!

Probably his site hosting (he goes through GoDaddy it looks like) was down for maintenance. I saw that it was down, but that's actually common for it to be down at that time for maintenance. Nothing to panic about. Smiling

Well, I'm not 100% sure why this happened, but our switch was turned off last night. When I asked them to check on it, my data center support staff tells me that the power cord to the switch was loose and therefore the power to it was off.

So my server was sitting there alive and well but the switch (which connects it to the internet) was off for about 7 hours.

Needless to say, I am very unhappy about it. I don't know how the power cord got loose because nobody should have been in the cabinet.

Anyway, whatever caused it, the power is plugged back in and all is well, and I'm hoping that this was just a strange fluke.

I don't mean to laugh, but DA**.. that's funny as all ****. Seriously. My DH used to work for a registar and something like that would have NEVER been allowed. He was the senior sysadmin & he would have been called within about.. oh, 30 seconds of something like this happening.

Well it's just good to know that we don't have to turn all our acorns over to some family napper.

In my case, I was sound asleep and didn't know it was happening. As soon as my data center staff were notified, they did immediately fix it.

Only my cabinet was affected so of course, nobody else knew it had happened.

No no no, not YOU being awoken up, the sysadmins there at Colo4. You should contact them and complain royally that you lost 7 hours of revenue! Us plant geeks have nothing else better to do at 1am than troll a plant forum, ya know. Green Grin!

Ya know, I do happen to know some geeks who could easily put together a monitoring system so that if something like this were to happen again, or if the system got hacked by some |uz25 from Anonymous or LOLZ or other ijits they could provide protection. Just an idea. ;)
