One of the many garden ideas we have borrowed from others: empty wine bottles that act as flower bed borders. Rays of the sun late in the day can shine through and cast green, amber, etc. light if they are situated right. We didn't consume the wine, the bottles came from caterer friends and restaurants.

Lovely garden and pictures. Our orange flame deciduous azalea is just about to burst into bloom. In fact it will probably be lovely when we go home after work today. It was transplanted from another place in the yard into a pot and then into the ground months later when we did our back yard renovation project. So we are very happy to see it bloom.

A red deciduous azalea bought from a nursery and planted last month is not doing as well, but I believe it will survive and may even bloom a little later.

The regular azaleas have been blooming along with the dogwoods and yellow Lady Banksia rose to create a very lovely presentation.

David, do you have a picture of the wine bottle border that I might have missed.

Paul, Here's the picture that someone mentioned, I think. This is a new bed built last Oct/November. We haven't observed whether or not the rays from a setting sun will gleam through these or not. They did on an older bed, but we don't have pictures of them handy. We didn't take time to remove the labels from the bottles, but a block wall covered in stone will likely replace the crossties and bottles pictured here. The bottles contribute only 3-4 inches of linear distance, so it takes many bottles.
Thanks,
David

Thank you, Leslie and Becky. I failed to take pictures the past 2 weeks when it was near and at peak spring bloom---too busy working once again.

Doris, that's just more proof that your little patch of paradise is too far away from my little patch of paradise. If we were closer, I could take pics while you work Hilarious!

So the dogs and I will just move into the cabin then, ok? No? Maybe when it's not daylily season, we can get you better trained on that fancy camera, then. Is there ever any down time at Shady Rest Gardens?

Winter has been until this past winter. It was so mild that I had very little down time for doing things other than gardening. I just have to practice with the camera. I have to stop work long enough to take some pictures. I wish that I had taken some the past couple of weeks. It was really pretty here.

Doris, do you live anywhere near Joanne Stewart? I've known Joanne for years. I remember her telling me that she could grow all kinds of daylilies where she lives.

Joanne lives in Northeast GA, and we live in Northwest GA. We see Joanne at our region meetings. We can grow most daylilies except some very tender evergreens. We have found some of Jack Carpenter's to be tender for us.
