Lynn, the light bulb has finally gone ON. I was thinking about your idea of spurge/succulent boxes. I clicked Euphorbias in the new "custom databases" feature and saw the "Search by characteristics" link. Clicked on that and, of course, it brings up the databoxes. The first box under "Plant Habit" is "Herb/forb" ... that's where all the spurge Euphorbias will be marked. Down a few lines is "Cactus/Succulent" and that's where all the succulent Euphorbias will go.

So when I'm done marking, the system can sort the Euphorbias into the two types automatically, if the request to search by characteristics is made. HAPPY DANCE!! Now will this be perfect? That remains to be seen, but once the system can divide the two types readily and easily like that, I will see what can be done about separate Encyclopedia pages and so forth. ANOTHER HAPPY DANCE HERE.

Now the task seems logical and doable to me. Not a quick task, by any means, but doable. Green Grin! Green Grin! Green Grin!

So I can set this on the back burner for a little bit now that at least I know where I'm (we're) going with it. Thumbs up Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

If you mean making two different parent plants, those can ONLY be divided by botanical name (genus and species), not databox characteristics.

OK, but the Euphorbias can still be divided into the two types by a characteristics search? Such as "succulent".

Well, Euphorbias can be searched using the custom database feature... You can pull a list of plants that match the characteristics you choose.

Great. That will work perfectly for starters to break down such a big genus of plants. That's the only way I see to divide them into the two specific types that exist. If someone comes along and wants to take a species or several species and their progeny and make those parents for moderation purposes and create pages, fine. If not, at least for now the two types of Euphorbias will be divided and identifiable. That's a big enough task in and of itself.

Thanks for the info.

I tip my hat to you.

I've done a few and am happy with the way this is looking. If you click on Euphorbias in the "Custom databases" area and then the "Search by characteristics", then query for either "herb/forb" or "cactus/succulent", a list of the ones entered thus far will come up. People wondering about the difference in the two types should be able to see quite easily at a glance what is meant by "spurge" Euphorbia and "succulent" Euphorbia. Plus the list generated will tell them which ones are which.

So it's a small start.

Lynn and Evan, I haven't forgotten about your offers to help. Much appreciated. When I'm ready to go after this full speed, I'll yell. Green Grin! I tip my hat to you.
