I had looked at this "ugly" little cactus at a favorite nursery for several months but never bought it. A few days ago when I went there it was ready to bloom so I brought it home.

Unfortunately it wasn't labeled and I'm not smart enough to know what it is. Any suggestion would be welcome.

Paul, why not post it in the ID forum. I bet you'll get an identification very quickly. It actually rings a bell with me but I can't come up with the name right now.

Paul, I believe your cactus is Gymnocalycium asterium.

That species is actually not in the database; dirtdigger or Paul, why not add it and then attach the picture?

I thought it might be a Gymnocalycium but that would have been a big guess on my part. Thanks to both of you for the help.
