Confused I was recently posting pictures in the database and got to Chocolate Dreams and the flower I was posting did not look like the one already there. I have a clump with two mixed flowers, one which I thought was the real Chocolate Dreams because it looked like the auction photo and the other flower I thought was different. That different one actually looks like the picture already posted here. Confused Now I am not sure which is the real Chocolate Dreams (or do I even have the correct one). Shrug!

The description is
Chocolate Dreams (Shooter, 1996)
height 24", bloom 5", season M, Rebloom, Dormant, Diploid, Brown self with light green throat.

Here is the picture that I posted.

Here is the auction photo that I saved for comparison. (not mine and I would normally never post this)

This is the flower in that same clump that I thought was incorrect.

However, it looks more like the one posted here

and the one on the AHS site here: http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli...

and the one posted here: as well http://daylilyfans.com/woodlak...

I am confused! Confused

I think your first one looks like Chocolate Splash by the Shooters. There has been discussions on other sites about this as well.

It does indeed look like that one. I have sent the seller an Email asking for clarification. We shall see what he says.

One thing that I can test when they bloom is ploidy. It seems that Chocolate Splash is a Tet, while Chocolate Dreams is a Dip. That should be easy enought to figure out.

I have checked my records further and realized that I actually bought "Chocolate Dreams" twice from different people. I know that I planted both purchases together to make a bigger clump. If I actually received different cultivars from each seller that would certainly explain the mixed clump. Sad

After looking at pictures from the Shooter's site I am now wondering if the other plant I have is actually Chocolate Dreams either. It actually looks more like the picture of Chocolate Ripples to me. http://www.mariettagardens.com...
Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Chocolate Ripples')

What do you guys think?

Laura, if you are into brown daylilies, do you yet have Mathew Martin?

One of my favorites. Sorry about the sheen on this pic - later in the day with full sun.

Can't find a picture of Bluegrass Chocolate Sunday (it might not have bloomed last year as it was new or it just might not have been labeled, there are a few that never did get labeled in the middle of boom season)

Fudge Sundae (Mercer-R., 1989)
height 30", bloom 6.25", season M, Semi-Evergreen, Tetraploid, Chocolate red blend with yellow throat. ((Island Empress × Royal Ambassador) × (sdlg × Lunar Sea))
Thumb of 2012-04-17/Ditchlily/61e699

Not quite as dark:
Duke of Durham (Elliott, 1977)
height 29", bloom 6", season MLa, Dormant, Diploid, Copper brown with purple eyezone and green throat. (Sea Warrior × Chocolate Pudding)
Thumb of 2012-04-17/Ditchlily/030f50

More wine-red than brown but looks that way in my garden:
Gollum (Hanson-C., 1991)
height 22", bloom 6", season EM, Dormant, Tetraploid, Fragrant, Black purple self with chartreuse green throat. ((Royal Heritage × sdlg) × Tet. Grand Masterpiece)
Thumb of 2012-04-17/Ditchlily/b3f40b

Another copper-red:
Hypnotized (Petit, 2005)
height 28", bloom 8", season M, Rebloom, Semi-Evergreen, Tetraploid, Polymerous, Copper with purple eye above green throat. (Baracuda Bay × Tet. Open Hearth)
Thumb of 2012-04-17/Ditchlily/3f1339

Mahogany Magic (Stamile, 1994)
height 21", bloom 4", season M, Semi-Evergreen, Tetraploid, Mahogany red with black eyezone above gold throat. (Obsidian × Tiger Kitten

Night Embers (Stamile, 1997)
height 30", bloom 5", season EM, Rebloom, Semi-Evergreen, Tetraploid, Fragrant, Double, Bing cherry red with white edges and green throat. (Double Phelan × sdlg)
Says it is red, but is very dark in my garden:

I don't have any of the above plants. The color is interesting. I did win Quilt Patch on the LA this Spring. I will ck and see if it is in the data base. I collect quilts and daylilies, so I thought I had better get it too lol.

I will if it blooms Debra. I am looking forward to getting more pics of my daylily blooms this season. Last yr I had family members in the hospital so I didn't get many quality pics.
