Anyone have *any* idea on who these guys are? It rained this morning so I couldn't get a scent out of either, so I don't know if they smell good or not. Both of these are true-to-color w/no touchups. I got the purple from a Craigslist "free" ad and the Yellow/Brown came in as a NoID off of a co-op last year on Cubits. I'm not too worried if these can't be identified.. I'm just happy they're blooming!

Purple NoID - about 15" tall.

Yellow/Brown NoID - about 10"-12" tall (very short)

Oh Toni -- I just watched your youtube video -- a German Roller!! Yes? I haven't seen one or heard one in years. I had a German Roller many years ago, and in fact, bred a pair and had the fun of watching babies being hatched and raised. You brought back good memories -- thank you for that. Do you still have your Canaries?

I didn't have anything new in actual bloom this morning, but I have lots & lots of stalks, including on irises that have never bloomed for me before!

Here's a yellow NoID. This iris has NEVER bloomed. When I planted it like 5 years ago in the fall, the following spring I had to hire a bobcat to move 21tons of dirt & he squished my irises flat. So I've never seen this color bloom before. They always grew, just never bloomed.
Thumb of 2012-05-03/Skiekitty/6369f2

And my row of NoIDs. These are all from either Freecycle or Craigslist.. I don't really care about names of irises .. if I don't know them, I'm not going to die or anything. There's peach colored & white w/yellow beards (I think), plus the black/purple ones here (I think!).

And a straight-down shot of a barely opening purple/black.

Mary Ann - I didn't have any German rollers. Some of my "American Singers" did sound very Roller-ish, but I never purchased any. Main reason is that they're not that commonly available here! Mostly Spanish Timbrados or "kitchen canaries". And unfortunately I don't have my babies any more. Had to make a decision: keep my cats or keep my canaries. Cats won out. I had at one time up to 33 canaries and they were becoming expensive cat-snacks. Plus it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO hard to find decent stock here in Colorado!! Regular "kitchen canaries" are between $60-$120, depending on the color (green/yellow/variegated). Red/orange were a minimum of $125. There was one breeder of Russian Singers (*swoon!!*) and they were commanding $400/each!! Blinking Blinking Needless to say, I didn't get any. I still have a ton of cages & supplies that I need to sell off, though.. my big flight cages. Know anyone who'd want to buy any? Hilarious!

Pink Pele. I guess this one is a dwarf as it's only about 12" tall.

Very pretty - love that Blazing Saddles.

And cats are the reason I have no pet birds! Plus my son's 9 foot boa that periodically comes home for a visit (and I expect will be back here soon, since he is graduating from college next week) Now I just have to keep my cats, from the snake, instead of the birds, from the cats..... ~Jan

That is a vibrant color on Pink Pele! very pretty. Is Dauntless a TB? Historic no doubt.

Tom - I have NOOOOOOOOOOOO idea. Dauntless seems to be a TB.. not as tall as my mystery yellows (they're massively tall, about 4-4.5'!) When I bought Pink Pele from a co-op from Cubits last year, I wasn't expecting that salmony of a pink more of a softer pink. But, that's what my invoice said & it's in the spot I planted the co-op irises and it's the only pink I ordered, so that's how I came up w/who it was (the tag I used faded w/the snow).
