Thanks Michele, good to know info. I have been leery of using
frozen pollen. Didn't trust how I went about it. So now I know.
Gonna have to get a new notebook for tips.

I have questions, I've had a long day, so forgive me please????

1. How long can pollen that was frozen, be left outside before it must be used or returned to the freezer and it will be good?

2. If I harvest the anthers very early in the morning, before any dry pollen is showing, will it still have viable pollen after it is allowed to dry?? I had no idea that when a bloom doesn't have dry pollen that it would dry off the plant.

3. After removing the vial from the freezer, I need to allow the vial to warm before opening it???

4.could I hold the vial in my hand to warm it? Or if I carry the still closed cold vial outside, will it not sweat?(example; I get out 25 vials to use that morning, do I open them inside after waiting how long? Can I carry the group of vials outside in whatever, closed or open, imediately or wait how long?

5. Once I've used a dixie cup to let the pollen dry in, do you wash the cup, or just blow it out or wipe it out, before reusing?

I'm sure I'll think of more questions latter on.

Thanks so much to all. If anyone has other suggestions, please, put them out here. We love suggestions and ideas of any and all kinds. It's like I told my d-n-l with her first child " listen to everyone, think about the advise, throw away most, keep what makes sense to you" and you will learn from all of it".

Blessings, Mona

Thanks, Michele for doing that! I saw this thread had lots of pollen info and thought about splitting it off. Now, I won't have to! Big Grin

One thing I have wanted to use in the garden, but have not come across one yet is a walker like an older person would use. I saw one once that the gardener had taken a piece of 1 x 12 and wired it across the top, and another across where the brace pieces are. They had a lightweight, handy work table / desk to use in the garden!

This is the kind I am talking about.... picture a flat board across the top, then another halfway down where the side braces are.

I have one my sister bought and dressed up with cap pistols and sheriffs badges when I had the TIA and started being even more unsteady on my pins than usual. Bet I could bring it from the office and fix it like that, Juli. Great idea!
It’s okay to not know all the answers.

I have a steel gadget that has two pointed prongs that go in the ground and a stake about thirty inches to the top where there is an S shaped piece. This supports my shovels and rakes up off the ground where I can see them. I have two and I can't find them any more. I can't remember where I bought them and I wish I had four.
I keep my small tools, a small can of Snapshot, and price lists, etc. in a black plastic tub out in the garden where it is handy.
I use a big screwdriver for dividing. I put some orange flagging tape on it so when I put it down, I can find it easily.

Hmm - I could permanently attach a board to a walker we have and use it for table. Thanks for the idea.

Paint your screwdriver handle red to make it easier to find. My DH did this on my japanese garden knife when I had trouble finding it when I would lay it down in the garden while weeding.

Good idea about the paint. I keep loosing my root knife in the garden. It has a brown wooden handle. I think red is a great idea.
