One Weed, Two Weeds, Green Weeds, Blue Weeds. Some are small, some
are tall, some so big they make you fall.

Some break off, others brown; some too hard to take them down. With a shovel, with a pick; There's so many I may get sick. I spray with poison to kill them all...I wish there were no weeds at all.

Then there's frost, or constant threats; the leaves all die, we're taking bets. Freeze warnings come, but little happens; it seems the weather folks are nappin.

Then the wind, right after it, hail; I run three blocks to get my mail. Will this strange spring never end?; why do I garden I ask my friends.
It seems to happen every year, and don't even mention those hateful deer.

I question it once and twice and thrice; then blooms appear it's all so nice. Why do we do it? Many ask. I guess the blooms are worth the task.

One bloom, two blooms: red blooms, blue blooms. Some are small, some are tall, some so big they make you fall. Yes it's work, it can be sad....but once they bloom it makes you glad.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I love garden poetry. Hurray!

Here is one that I wrote several years ago.
A Hemaholic, yes I am
I will not look I know I can.
I can resist she’s said before
And then just goes and buys some more.

I must stop, this can’t go on
Or I must sell my own firstborn.
The yard just shrinks from year to year
As fans go here and here and here.

“It’s just too much!” I have to shout
As beds creep out and out and out.
The grass is gone there is no more
Just paths to wander and explore.

Thanks. Smiling

My son and I were reading "Green Eggs and Ham" at the time. It was the inspiration for the rhythm and meter.

Thanks.

Here is one that I have shared elsewhere. Not mine, wish I had written this. It was sent to me by Kim King (Kingsbirdhouse on the LA).

CHAD

Charlie Harper, MG 2004

One of the benefits of the Master Gardener Fall Gardening Symposium, sponsored by Hancock County, was learning the technical name for the problem I have with buying plants. Dr. Laura Deeter introduced this important bit of information to the class.

It's CHAD - 'Compulsive Horticultural Acquisition Disorder'. Typical symptoms are 1.) impulse buying of any new plant encountered, 2.) buying it without having even the vaguest idea of where you are going to plant it, 3.) putting new plants in willy-nilly into the most convenient, available spot in the garden, 4.) eventually filling every available empty space, resulting in unmanageable overcrowding, and 5.) losing the lawn to 'bed creep', as beds are expanded in an attempt to relieve the overcrowding, while making space for new acquisitions. Other symptoms may include 'new plant envy', 'gardener's resentment', financial exhaustion, and a number of specific addictive behaviors, including hostaholicism, hemeroholicism, etc. Though not discussed, it appears that eventual loss of bladder and bowel control may presage the onset of insanity. No cure was offered.

As I suspected, it is widespread among gardeners, especially Master Gardeners. I don't feel so badly now. At least I know I'm not alone.
