Ann, What a great find and a great eye.

Thank you Evan! It's growing on our property & now that I found it I wonder how many times I previously missed it.
The property has been mowed every 6 mos. for a few years & prior to that had cows grazing on it so I'm really surprised to find these little gems as well as some other plants.
The HOA requires mowing twice a year for vacant properties. I'm hoping we can get construction started before the next mowing in July --- then I can let the mowing slide & once we're through building they're going to have to fight me about the mowing. It's going to be a wildflower property then. They'll have to take me to court. Nothing in the HOA says we have to mow AFTER we live there! And I'm just going to add more native wildflowers.

Ann: What a cutie! They are such wonderful little wildflowers! I found a couple growing in the lawn a few year ago but never saw them again and my photo's were lost when my laptop crashed ... which reminds me I need to do a backup since I haven't done it in a couple of months!. I also found the Zeuxine strateumatica, commonly called "Lawn Orchid" and"Soldier Orchid" growing in the lawn awhile back. Such neat little plants ... I should have transplanted them to an area that didn't get mowed!!

I bet your property is going to be absolutely beautiful as a wildflower garden! That's always been my dream ... a property with NO sod/grass/lawn ... only native plants and wildflowers!!

I live in a deed restricted community and there are so many rules and regulations ... some I agree with totally, but others ...

For many years I wanted to live in a more country setting where I could really do what I want with the property without city/county rules and regulations. It would be wonderful to have a totally native plant/wildflower landscape. I'd still want to have some of my favorite annuals and perennials but I could always have them in containers here and there! Now that I'm "older" I still would like a country setting but I don't like driving much and I'd hate being too far from shopping!

We got lucky. It's 5.0 mi. & then suddenly boom! you're in the middle of town with the Courthouse, groceries, drug store etc....
I'm not into shopping. I do it when it's a necessity.

I noticed CITES has some restriction on this plant. Are they rare or endangered or something?

I think so Evan. I am going to check it out to the fullest. I saw a ref. to something like that when I was looking up the data for it. What is CITES? Can you provide me a link please?

I know that it was extremely difficult to find data on it & precious little did I find so I think it is certainly rare & may well be endangered or protected.
