I like the Calamity Jane cross and the Violet Becomes You cross
as first choice. Next, I pick the Raspberry Mountain one. Fantastic
seedlings. Yep, sometimes the babies will surprise.

Last page I love Freds Overheated X Lillian's Banging Mangoes and also Lillian's Lying Eyes x Heather Grace.

Tink I love that seedling on the last page. SWEET.
Also Calamity Jane X Raspberry Mountain and the Fantastic Fringe x Lillian's Jingerbred. I am real curious how some of the others will mature as they are looking good too.

Nice seedling Michele. I have finished setting seed except for the dips, Thursday will be the last day for them, I have to go back to Hattiseburg Friday to judge there show and thats the end of traveling for a while. I am in the process of selecting seedlings as they rebloom to move to the hybridizing area this fall. I have now taken 389 seedling photos, twice as many as last year. I need to narrow that number down to a couple dozen as they rebloom. I will be looking for the best scapes, tall with some branching.
Blooming yesterday.

I agree with Leslie. I don't know how to cull seedlings. Sometimes I love them the first year and the second year when they bloom I don't like them and end up tossing virtually everything I kept the first year. That is based on the bloom. The second year if I don't like the bloom, I disregard the bud count and branching. I definitely don't have the skills to be a hybridizer.

I have found with some that it's obvious they're keepers. I try to stay with those.
I remember the very first year I had seedlings bloom I had a nine month old with a 52 bud count and you KNOW Dan doesn't fertilize alot! The bloom count wasn't anything special and I asked one of the "big guys" if I should keep it (not Dan) based on the scape. He said "no" and I didn't and have been kicking myself ever since.

The eye and edge ones for me, especially the last one.
I think I have a tendency to cull too much, but a few, very few are
obvious keepers as Leslie said.

Ann we all pull too many seedlings every year then toss most of them the next. From all the seedlings I have posted here I will be lucky if a half dozen make the cut as three year olds. Most of those pretty faces will not have the scape I want to ever leave here.
This is a seedling blooming on the first scape.
Thumb of 2012-05-31/spunky1/9f909d
This is the same seedling on rebloom, better form and a better scape. This is why I select on rebloom.
Thumb of 2012-05-31/spunky1/a1bff0
The next two seedlings are sibs. (LILLIAN'S LIES AND ALIBIS X CRAZY IVAN) X MARTIN BLONDEEL
You will here people say they can look at a daylily and tell you what its out of, don't believe it.
