A haybine with, for a lack of better way to describe it...........has "wheels" Or "discs" with knives on it that rotate kinda fast (LOL) and that cuts the hay. Hence "discbine". The one SU is running is, I think, a 16 foot machine.

Porkpal, I have my own box of crayons!

It's moving weekend for my youngest daughter - truck's coming tomorrow and she and the kids are coming Monday. Adam may wait a day and sell off some more scrap before he comes up. She called and told me I was getting a moving van for Mother's Day -what fun.

Back to ironing curtains.

I see I never elaborated on the Sale Barn job..............I am taking it, and job-sharing with the neighbor gal. Neither one of us can commit to it on a full-time basis, but it will work out that she can go when I have conflicts and vice versa. She has problems this week due to haying, so I went. We are both just "in training" right now, tho the present gal said I did a really good job today. Green Grin! Friday is the Feeder cattle sale, that will be more of a hair-pulling day. Lots of beasts, and it's a long day. I won't be able to stay the whole time, maybe half or so. We will not be working for the Sale barn, we will be working for our former Vet clinic, who does all the vet work for the barn. So, for once, instead of TAKING our money, the vet will be paying ME! I told them that I couldn't commit on really "starting" till after Labor day and that any milking jobs we would be asked to take would have to take precedence. That is where the neighbor, Norma, comes in. She won't be able to during corn harvest............we do do crops anymore so I can do it then. (provided I have all of the paperwork program figured out and can do it correctly..........LOL)

SU tilled up my garden area last week. Today I ran up to Farm & Fleet after the sale barn and picked up a few seeds, so I guess I will go toss them in the ground and see what springs up. Might plant my amaryllis bulbs outside too; I'm thinking the weather will be kind to them.

Stan mowed hay yesterday, just a bit. He plans on putting it up the silo himself today. Right now, he's hooking up the cattle trailer to take a dry cow down to the pasture we rent.

We have 8 little heifers out in the heifer orchard. Every once in a while, they will all put their tails in the air and take off at a gallop, coming to a screeching halt and putting their heads down to eat. Fortunately, they had a good long session of bumping into the electric wire out in the barnyard and so far (touching wood) they have stopped every time.

We've got Melissa moved in their new house and farm. there are still lots of boxes, and Adam is bringing another load of stuff today, but the house feels very like home already. The kids are loving it all. It has been a remarkable busy week!

Not dairy farmers, but maybe hay or beef. I ordered 25 chickens, pullets, for them yesterday. Melissa only wants 12, but you can't just order 12, so I told her she'd have some to eat.

They've had chickens before and Erin told me that when they lay eggs, "they go in the pot!"

The poultry version of "publish or perish".

This year's group of replacement pullets seems to contain at least two roosters. I'll wait a little longer, but I don't think they are going to turn out to be egg layers.

Going out to our local pizza joint in a bit. SU had his last competition last night and he is wanting pizza. Well, I am too. LOL Invited the kids; whether they come or not is their business. I called ahead and ordered, so at least we won't have to wait when we get there, or the wait time will be minimal. After we get back home I'm going to load up some plants that live local and take them back later on. SU wants to ride the bike to town, I told him I'd ride with him, I have no desire to fight the wind and he can use the extra ballast on the back to stay on the road. Green Grin!

Taking my mom to Sauk Prairie tomorrow for a consult and more info on her upcoming hip replacement on June 4th. She is so ready for it to be taken care of, it's been bothering her quite a bit the last 6 months or so. And best do it before she falls and complicates matters further.

Anna, tell her that after she gets the joint replaced, she'll wonder why she waited so long.

Stan put the first 3 loads of haylage up on Saturday. He's chopping now. all of his help is at school, so he chops 3 loads, unloads them all and starts over again. I tried to get the girl who does relief milking, but she was busy at home today.

you all are going to laugh, but I just picked up 25 chicks at the post office - not for my, for my daughter. She gets to take care of them, I get eggs. Not a bad deal.

More hay chopped, some flower bed planted and the pumpkins and squash, but not the beans or carrots yet. I'll get to it eventually. Planting garden seems to take longer with a 6 year old and an ALMOST 8 year old...

Last day of the month and Stan is down raking hay that he hopes to bale this afternoon. I don't think we have ever baled hay in May before. That's just 13 days from first hay mowed to getting into baling. The chopping went fast, and the grass matured faster.

We had 6/10ths of an inch of rain on Tuesday, that puts us up to an inch and 1/10th for the month. Just a bit dry.

Rain here during the night and off and on all morning. I think it has pretty much finished now.

Gotta get busy doing the eulogy for Uncle Roy's funeral tomorrow. Gah!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope I have enough "stuff" to tell about him.
