threegardeners said:1 - can we have a search for it all?

The search engine is in and finished. You will find it on the right-side of the Gardening Ideas feature.

Also, if you do a site-wide search from the homepage, it will include all the Ideas in that search.

I'd like to emphasize something Dave said earlier in this thread. The new feature "Gardening Ideas" is open to all our members and all of you have a lot to offer. I read the forums and I know what you can do; I see the information and I know about the instructions/tutorials you share there.

Now you have a way to share it with everybody. Dave has created a very easy to use program that allows all of us to submit long articles, tips, tours, tutorials, short articles or other kinds of informative materials that readers would like to know about. There are three tools you can choose from; the simplest is for tips, then there is another that is much like posting to a thread, and then there is a third which allows you to submit longer articles. The choice is all yours.

If you can post to a thread you will have no problem submitting information to Gardening Ideas. It really is that easy and the tools Dave has provided walk you through the process step by step.

And don't be shy about spelling or punctuation. I'll help with that, it's what I'm here for. If you aren't sure about something concerning writing or an article, then just ask; I'm always around here somewhere and I always answer my Tmails.

'Gardening Ideas' is a very innovative concept, unlike anything I've found anywhere else on the net. It gives our members front page space and it also gives you the tools you'll need when you have something important about gardening to share on that front page. That's the beauty of what Dave and Trish have created here, the focus is always on our members.

I'm looking forward to all of it and especially to helping you in whatever way you need. Gardening will always be a learning experience, no matter how many years we've gardened. And the fun about that is, you never know for sure but when you share something, it just might be the very thing one of our readers needs.

Looking forward. Thumbs up

Thanks Hetty. Smiling I just think everybody has something important to contribute whether we realize that or not. Now here's an opportunity and an easy way for all of us to share what we know.

How many times have you been reading a forum and saw where somebody said 'You should write an article about that" ? Happens all the time.

Now there's a way.

This quote needs to be out somewhere for the world to see... (maybe it already is?)

I choose to not get the newsletter, and I don't often pop into the site talk forum, so while I've noticed the front page changed, I hadn't seen this forum at all, and didn't know that things had changed behind the scenes as well. Looks like a really cool enhancement! (not that I expect any less from ATP) Hurray! Hurray!

Trish said:Sharon is still our editor, and will be editing everything in this feature.
I (and Dave when needed) will be acting as "publisher". We'll be scheduling articles, and maintaining the feature, and anything else that needs doing. That frees Sharon up for the added editing, and also keeps her from being the go-between when I come through and reschedule stuff at the last minute. Whistling We think that dividing the work up this way will be helpful to everyone.

Trish, what about tips that were pending? You had approved one from me, pending photo. I finally got a photo today, and was going to t-mail you about it tomorrow. What do I do now?

(gag, that sounds like a heart-broken teenager!) Hilarious!

Don't worry, Mary, we can take care of it, but Trish will tell you the direction she wants you to take with the picture. There are others who have the same concern, I think.

I thought I'd pop in and say this so you don't lose any sleep over it tonight. Smiling

Mary-

Go ahead and tree-mail me the picture, that will be the quickest way for now. As we get settled into this new system, manual is sometimes the easiest way to get stuff done. We still have everything from previously, so nothing's been lost!

And as a general public service announcement:

I really encourage everyone to pick some way of keeping up with the site. ATP is already a pretty big site, and it will only grow. Members need ways of keeping up with what's new, and Dave and I need a way to communicate with all of the members.

Over the years, we've seen people either frustrated or disappointed that they didn't know about this or that. It really is up to the members to take advantage of the ways we have available:

The newsletter: is sent out once per week (Monday morning). Most importantly contains any big news items that happened that week, plus our latest statistics, headlines of all of the articles and tips, and the most popular database entries of the week.

Facebook- Be friends with us on facebook, and I announce the latest news and sometimes my plant pick of the day.

This forum- Detailed hashing out of any and all features and announcements Hilarious! Just glancing at the subject line is enough to know if there is something new you might care about.
