I am not very good at growing these. But I have a small one growing in a nest of young Philodendron McDowell. It is rooted in the mulch, I hope it takes off

I would think that is a good environment! I always hold my breath when I have a Ludisia discolor hanging on and actually growing for a few years.
Now some years ago in the Spring, I had a good size plant of this, which was not doing well at all. I figured it was toast and placed the pot at the side of the house, the plant to be disposed. Well, I forgot about it and the plant was left to its own devices over the whole Summer in this mostly sunny location. Imagine my surprise when I took a look at it in late Summer, it was perfectly healthy and more sturdy than any other I ever owned. The leaves were somewhat lighter than normal, but they were fine.
I took it back inside that Fall and it lived a few more years.

Ursula I have never had good luck with these or with the Rattlesnake orchids! I actually found this little one growing amidst the tangled vining aroids on the trunk of one of my two huge mama Anthurium schlechtendalii by the greenhouse stream when I was spraying the Anthurium for scale! (photo to show)It was just kind of poking out of the jungle down there. I gently removed it and stuck it in the middle of these Philos where it has been growing for about a month. Maybe I should;t have moved it, but it would never be able to be seen down there and I wanted to see it better

Its getting more and more jungly by the day! After I get back from my last art show of the season this weekend I have a lot of things I want to do out there. Some trellises of different materials to put together, removing a few things that have over produced and trialing them outdoors this winter, planting some other stuff in their place....work never ends when its fun! I think I finally have all of my presently owned orchids repotted/remounted/rebasketed. otherwise taken care of, and am hoping for some more blooms! I have a Heliconia sharonii that is bloom size, also waiting on my Heliconia rostrata to cough up an info or 2.

I grew the Ludisia for several years but mine never was a pretty plant. It just had pretty leaves.
