Did you keep them all Paul to see how they will perform their second bloom year? From the pictures they are all beautiful!

They are all beautiful indeed. I like them all but my favourites would be the ones with the dark falls.

#19 is so appealing, Paul! It's one of the prettiest irises I've ever seen. The next time you don't have room for some of your seedlings, perhaps you could offer them as prizes in one of the not-a-raffle raffles or sell them in the co-op forum.

That is very true Lucy. Last spring the Central Arkansas Iris Society (CAIS) held its annual plant swap on the state capitol grounds where we maintain an iris bed. One of our members, who is an iris hybridizer, walked up holding an absolutely gorgeous stalk with four open blooms and as many buds. The blooms were huge, white and ruffled and over-washed with green. The whole group fell silent as we stared at this beautiful flower. Someone said "what is the name of that iris" and the owner replied "trash pile iris". He went on to explain that this is one he threw out the year before and it proved sturdy enough to grow and flourish against all odds. It was beautiful!

I hope he/she took that broad hint from nature and saved that cultivar!!?? Got a picture? I may have to make a trip to your plant swap, if there's a chance that Iris will be there.................

Mary Ann, I did not ask him what he did with the iris. Since he brought a bloom stalk for us to drool over I just assumed he would retrieve the plant from the trash pile.....especially after he saw everyone's reaction to it. I am sort of in awe of hybridizers and do not chat them up a lot. Keeping in mind the old adage 'keep your mouth shut and be thought an idiot or speak up and remove all doubt' I try not to babble too much (a great effort for me).
