Mine is Araceae, the aroids. I love this family because it encompasses so many genuses that have such great diversity of species. Alocasia, colocasia, anthurium, philodendron, monstera, rhaphidophora, tetrosperma, anchomanes, amorphophallus....so many more! Where else can you find two plants in the same Genus that look so different, like these? Rhaphidophora decursiva, the large growing vining beauty of the large leaf tropical; and Rhaphidophora korthalsii, the small vining shingler? Or Monstera deliciosa variegata and Monstera dubia, another shingler?

I used to agree with Araceae as my favorite group of plants. I have many different types but I have had a big problem with the armadillos digging them up. I have trapped over 60 in the last three years. So I migrated to plumeria, specifically variegated types. I have over thirty different types now and acquire any new ones I can find. It is getting harder to find new ones but there are still some out there I am looking for. Most come out of Thailand now.

I had an rabbit burrow under the wall of my greenhouse...I went in there one day and saw him hop away...he had been nibbling on some stuff. He ate a spathophyllum to the nubs. I don't know what made him leave...maybe the snake that lives in there. But I am glad he is gone! I love aroids for the diversity. Even in the same Genus, there are so many species and they are often quite different looking.

I seem to be collecting members of Crassulaceae & Asparagaceae. If I could find more Begonias, I'd expand in that direction a LOT.

I tried begonias, but I managed to kill them with too much water I think. I have ONE that does well, its a vantage wild one that I have in my greenhouse stream. I don't even have to keep it in the greenhouse, I could put it in a bog outside, but for some reason I haven't. It grows wild on the banks of the creek by our house. Another of my favorite plant families are palms. But not all palms LOL I am picky I like the smaller growing rainforest understory palms. Or the really S_L_O_W growing but large growing rainforest palms.

Its funny too because palms are in Arecaceae. Almost Araceae LOL. But I do love me some palms, like this Arena hookeriana. I like unusual fronds

Zingiberaceae is my favorite family. I LOVE gingers. Such a diverse group, gingers, bananas, heliconias.
There are so many gingers, and each genus looks so different.

all the family of Amaryllis, about the only one that can grow very good in a local climate, and does not require a special growing condition. It can survive from almost freezing temperature in winter (with occasional light snow on it) , to about 105-110 F in summer with low humidity. It can also tolerate to be drown in water for several days in winter, and survive up to a month without watering in summer.

I'm a lover of almost all types and I've noticed I have a few of different types. My favorite variety is probably tradescantias tho. Specifically trailing ones but so far I haven't found a variety of tradescantia that I didn't love.

I love propagating and sharing my plants so tradescantias just seem to really be my cup of tea. My favorite does changes pretty often. I'm big on Philodendrons too but if I had to pick one I'd stick with tradescantias Smiling

I like a lot of plants. Back in the day I was big in trading. But then I had a nursery license and actually had to learn about the laws that govern shipping plants across state lines. Even though I no longer run a nursery, now I have to limit myself to following the law and I only trade within the state of Florida

As much as I love my aroids, I am going to be having a Syngonium pulling out party soon. Its taking over!
