Challenge #7:

Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's twinkle light season! Ahh, the beautiful lights amidst the snow....But those aren't the only lights that pop up starting in the fall; twenty days ago, it was a different 'festival of lights,' celebrated by a variety of Indian faiths. a) What was that holiday and b) where does the name come from (what does it mean)?

Must answer both parts to win!

I know it is Diwali which is a holiday for the Hindu faith, but I don't know beyond that (there was a festival of lights shindig at work a few weeks ago)

I looked up the meaning, but that's cheating, so I won't post what it came from

For challenge #7, if someone wants to research it on Google and submit their answer, you are welcome to. It doesn't appear that we have anyone that knew the answer without a bit of research. ;)

Be prepared for challenge #8 to come up in just a bit here....

Diwali is the festival of lights which celebrates lights victory over darkness symbolizing good's victory over evil.

HammerofJustice got the Supreme Court vegetable case right--it's the TOMATO! It was ruled a vegetable instead of a fruit because it is commonly seen as a a vegetable, largely due to the fact that it is eaten in main courses and not desserts. This same logic was also applied to other things, such as beans. Thus, the vegetable tax of the time could be applied to these plants.

HammerofJustice - I believe this is your second win--congrats!....but, unfortunately, that means that you cannot be the winner for the Diwali question if you come up with the correct answer because I believe I set the cap of winners at 2; but, as it happens, you and others have only come up with half of the correct answer. Big Grin You got the Diwali part right, but...

....still looking for a winner that can tell me what "Diwali" means (where the name comes from), not what it celebrates. Smiling Be specific.
