We went to the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival last night with some friends. It was a wonderful time!

Hello My Friends
It's been quite a while since I posted anything here so here is a bit of an update. The garden jail worked fine this summer. The mice were under control but still managed to get some of the tomatoes. There was only bird netting on top of the garden jail and the mice performed an aerial assault. The bird netting will be replaced with steel mesh sometime before spring. The fruit trees were doing well until the deer descended and mauled them So an electric deer fence was put in and worked great, unfortunately a bit late. Bird netting managed to keep the squirrels at bay. There were still quite a few figs, some peaches and one lonely apricot. The apricot was good! The soil in some of the the containers is still not quite right and will get some attention this winter. Busy busy busy! Here are a couple snappies taken last week. We had about a foot os snow here in Tehachapi, the most I have seen since living here. Sorry it's been so long, but most days it get's late to early and this old Bozo just runs out of gas.

In one of those odd occurrences, I was just looking out the window to see how deep the new snow was and I was looking at nothing really across the street between two remaining houses.

Normally you can see nothing but grass and green branches but in winter and with the houses gone from the block past that one, I saw a dude walk by on the side walk and cars drive up and down the street.
I got a , that is cool, feeling as normally besides not being able to see that far for decades, there generally is not much foot or car traffic on that road.
One of the things I LOVE about winter is being able to see things that are hidden in spring , summer and even fall.

Well yesterday the lard but family managed to knock the bird feeder down; they did not unscrew it but are so porked they unbent the HEAVY multi-wire electric circuit wiring that is holding it up. Angry

It is so stiff I had to take it off of the tree and bend it with two hands to make the loop to re-hold the bird feeder.
TODAY, I have seen a bunch of BIRDS, yes BIRDS, Hurray! Hurray! no lard butt family out there pigging out.
Maybe they fell on their heads and got some sense knocked into them, no their brains are in the posterior location. Blinking

Hello My Friends
I was out working the soil in the garden jail today. The snow has all melted and it was a beautiful sunny day. I think it was probably in the mid fifties. Earlier in the week we had a high of thirty one day. The soil in the garden beds isn't quite right yet. It's a new garden and the soil is pretty raw. It's been getting some compost and well rotted chicken manure. I'm thinking of planting a cover crop, clover would be good. But it was such a nice day I decided to build a cold frame and try growing some lettuce and carrots. The garden is on the southern side of the house in a sunny warm spot, protected from the wind. The cold frame will be right up against the house. I'll start a new thread called cold frame garden. Let's see what happens.

Thanks, J.
Wish I could be working in the garden on this cold winter day.
We went for an evening Christmas light drive in the city and there is one magical neighborhood where they hang 12" balls of lights in their trees. So beautiful. Of course, pictures don't do it justice.
