We all know that the first year appearance of a seedling does not necessarily foreshadow its later blooms. Anyone have comparisons that we can see?

Here is one that I have: a cross of Little Grapette x Unknown

First year bloom last year 2011

It it had not obviously been the same plant location (with the same tag I might add) I would have wondered if it was a sib that had not bloomed last year, but you can see the tag in the whole plant photos from both years.

Thanks for the topic. This should be very interesting. I will have to check my pics and see if I have any that I have taken pictures of for 2 or 3 years to see if there were any changes.

could bad weather or soil changes have something to do with the differences in color and composition?

Yes, weather can be a factor sometimes, but as the plant matures the bloom may change too. I have had it go both ways. Either bloom got better or worse. Bud count either gets better or it doesn't.

This is a perfect time for this. I hope others have pictures.

Im picking my cull plants and this will give me more to 'think' about. My two best plants and flowers this year have terrible color..root beer. Im bummed, but I think now I might save them at least another year.

I should be able to post something soon. I had a seedling bloom last year that was nice and tall, multi branched but it was kind of muddy and ugly. It should be blooming again within a week. I'll post pictures!
