Time to start seeing all your lovely blooms, new ones and old favorites.
This is the "reward" that we have all been working toward, one potted bulb at a time.

This is Marquis from Amaryllis Bulb Company, my "go to" supplier in Florida. This is a beautiful white double with no pink defects. Eight buds on each of two scapes. The first day or two the bloom is a creamy white, ageing into a pure white. Only 5 weeks from planting to bloom. I don't expect any other blooms until the New Year.

That is very pretty. I tip my hat to you. All my bulbs are still in the fridge. Actually I still have a couple to go in the fridge. But will be also taking a few out of the fridge any day now.

Inferno from Amaryllis Bulb Company. A beautiful red double of the large flowered Symphony group from Hadeco in South Africa. In person, the color is more of a fire engine red than the orange-red shown in the photo.

This is Ambiance. I bought it late fall 2016, brought it to bloom inside my home January 2017, planted out after bloom period (probably in March or April 2017, and came into bloom outdoors in April 2018.

@bsharf -- that is gorgeous!! So brilliant!
@sallysmom - that is very striking - I love the contrast between the white and red.
I live up north, so mine need to come indoors every fall - would be nice if I could keep them outdoors all year long.

Doublet from White Flower Farms. This is a spectacular dark raspberry and white double. As it ages, the bloom gets crinkly and curls back, edges become more ruffled, and the raspberry lightens. You can see the change in the lower photo. The lowest bloom is the oldest one. The change is quite dramatic, and makes it even more interesting.

Pink Flush from Amaryllis Bulb Company. The color is a very pale pink raspberry with dark raspberry markings and a dramatic dark raspberry eye. 6 blooms on the one scape which it produced. Very attractive and a unique color.

Barbara, Doublet is so striking. I haven't seen anything quite like that. A whole bouquet to brighten up winter days.

Pierot from Royal Colors. This is a big, showy lipstick-red bloom with a clean white star, pale green center and a thin red "eye". 6 buds on each of 2 scapes. It has been unusually long lasting as a cut flower.

@bsharf Now when you cut them to put in a vase, do you first fill the inside of the hollow stem with water, put your finger over the opening, then put it in the vase so the stem stays filled with water? I read that one should do that, and it does seem to give an extra day or two to the bloom, but I don't know for sure.

No I never did that, but it might extend the bloom. Just saw an article in our local paper this morning about extending bloom time in a vase. Tricks included using lemon soda, vodka or bleach in the water. I use a sprinkling of sugar, and change the water every day. I also recut the stem every 3-4 days. By the time all the buds have opened, I can get 10 days to 2 weeks bloom out of a scape in a vase. Which is nearly as good as when it in the pot. Vases are also a way to save scapes which have broken off, just as the buds are swelling and getting color. At that point, they will go on to bloom normally in water. Broken off scapes used to be a major issue for me when I used cheap plastic pots that would tip over as the plant got top heavy. Last year, I started using a heavy clay pot which has ended that tip over problem.

I have used Sprite, sugar and bleach, but never vodka. I should think that vodka would make for a very HAPPY bloom!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Provence from Royal Colors. This is a nice coral raspberry pink bloom. I accidentally reordered this one. Several years ago, I submitted photos of this one to the database. But, I can never have too many bulbs, so that's OK. What is really interesting is the color change as it ages. The young blooms have a pale coral-pink base with dark raspberry markings and a dark raspberry eye. Within a few days the base color starts to fade and the raspberry markings start to lighten. The old blooms, which have curled back, have lost most of the base color, and the green center becomes more evident. I posted the third photo to show how dramatic the change is, when you see different aged blooms. If you didn't see them together, it would be easy to think that they weren't the same cultivar.

Naomi from Royal Colors. A impressive, smaller flowered cultivar with a dozen buds open at once. Pale coral pink and white, darker coral pink markings and eye, with a pale green center.

I like how the leaves curl on the edges, and I love the sparkles all over the petals! Naranja has sparkles also.

White Amadeus from Royal Colors. A huge, showy white double. It opens with a thin, pale pink picotee edge which fades as the flower ages. You can see the pink edge in the bottom photo. At time goes on, I have really enjoyed this one. It looks like a beautiful wedding bouquet. Last, but not least, of my new bulbs.

Wow - I would have missed that picotee edge if you had not pointed it out. So that edge fades with time? Interesting. I can see how that flower would be perfect for weddings! I had a friend who got married at a very informal wedding - she had no flowers ordered at all. My snowdrift was in bloom and I had her 2 young daughters hide in the bathroom with me before the wedding and make her a bouquet.
