thanks, Annie. That's a good description of it. I'm a firm believer in "better a day too early rather than a day too late."
I would have liked to have had 24 hours alone with him to spoil him and fuss over him, but I know he was in pain, and I couldn't run the risk of him breaking his leg when I live 30 miles away from my vet.
