Patti, you hit it exactly right -- I guess I wouldn't have been so disgusted by them if I had known they were painted lady babies! (odd how a simple thing like that can affect our entire perception...) We do have a lot of the Painted Lady butterflies around, but never made the connection (slapping myself on the side of the head).
