Which "purple ones" have you tried, Della? Can you expound on the taste: bitter, earthy, sour, "off", etc.? I am thinking that the color is just an easy association with bad taste, and that the real association should be with the oriental and trumpet groups of lilies because they are the common lilies that happen to be darker colored. I don't have enough orientals to eat, and I can't explain why I have tried any trumpets, but I haven't. (Maybe they just didn't look very tasty as I dug them.) Shrug!
