I do not know if it will work in warmer areas but...........Spring bulbs were a waste for me I use to never get to see blooms because my weather has always been strange. I save a lot of my leaves in the Fall because we have a tendency to warm up in March to 60s and have a big storm 3 weeks later.
Then we warm up again in April and have a snow storm and cold for 2 weeks. I would not get blooms because they would come up, the ones that survived the March crazy and the one week of good weather in April blooms start to open and we get a big snow ice storm.
In March when they start to come up. I throw a big load of leaves on top. Then April I see them coming up through the March mulch. I once again throw the leaves on. So by the end of April I am safe to let them come out into the world.
