Almost all the plants in my backyard are grown under similar conditions. A few hours of direct sun and maybe some dappled shade for a couple more hours. Hollyhocks, delphinium, Iris, lobelia, petunia and clarkia can be grown successfully.
Not sure how hot it gets in Colorado in the summer but even full sun plants can prefer just morning sun in the summer if it gets really hot (over 90F).
