I got an email yesterday about the "Orphan Sale" at a local nursery that I can only afford to buy from when they have their clearance sales. This nursery is something else. It is very much like a botanical garden. Several acres. Ponds, fountains, various paths, butterfly garden, just incredible to visit. I could spend hours there. So it is always a treat when they have the really good sales. It was quite crowded there, but I am glad I went. Got some great plants for amazing prices. I only bought 4 plants, but I am so excited with my purchases:

1 large Firespike plant. The hummers go nuts over the blooms on this plant. BUT ... this one is one of the rarer cultivars that has PINK flowers instead of red flowers. I have been wanting one of these for several years now. They didn't even sell them locally until recently. But the price was too high. I got this overgrown plant for $10. It's worth about $25-$30 because of it's size. They only had 2 and I bought the best looking one!

1 Beauty Berry bush. Been wanting one of these. The birds love the berries in Fall/Winter. It is native to Florida. I don't know why I never got one before. Probably the price. I got it for $5. It even had clumps of berries on it!

Then I bought two plants I'd never seen or heard of before:

1 Dwarf Clusia - It is a succulent. Kind of reminds me of a jade plant but with smaller leaves. This one is beautiful. Perfectly shaped. Got it for $5. It went into a sculptured clay pot that my son brought home from one of the wealthy folks on the beach who didn't want the pot any more. Nothing wrong with the pot, they just wanted to change their landscape and the pot didn't match. Ha! My son sometimes brings home the best containers. Nice containers that I could never afford unless they were at a yard sale for cheap.

1 Bulbine Frutescens (with orange blooms). Another succulent. $1 but I bet because of the large size it was a steal. Overgrown in the pot. Beautiful and perfect for the tipsy pot in front of my house. The tipsy pot has 4 clay pots and the bottom pot plant is on it's last leg. I needed a new plant for that pot. So that is where this clump is going to go. It is perfect for the tipsy pot because it doesn't get real tall.

All have already been planted except the last plant because it got dark before I could get it transplanted. Tomorrow ....

If I had had more $$'s, there were more plants I would have bought. There was a Ming Aralia there that I must have stared at for 15 minutes. But it was more than what I paid for all 4 of the above plants. And that IS a good price because it was large and beautiful and very healthy. I wanted that ming so bad. But wasn't meant to be. In another life .... Whistling Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.
