I'm enjoying all your bird photos immensely. I have no pics but wanted to share a wonderful bird story if I may.
A budgie, named MacGyver by his rescuers, was caught Jan 1st after surviving outdoors in some of this winter's most bitter temps for more than 2 months by joining a flock of sparrows!
He had been spotted over a period of 6 weeks visiting neighbourhood bird feeders and a local member of an Avian Welfare group assisted several couples with setting trap cages and teaching them some gentle behaviour modification techniques to try to lure him in before he froze to death or was killed by a predator. It was felt that MacGyver likely survived because he adapted quickly to the lifestyle of his adoptive Sparrow flock. Apparently it's not uncommon for flocks of sparrows to welcome a lost budgie, but for him to survive in temps that fell to minus 25 C during the Christmas holidays is a miracle in my mind! MacGyver is speaking fluent Sparrow, according to the Avian spokesperson who is now caring for him and trying to rehabilitate back to his former lifestyle, lol. Apparently 15 people have come forward claiming to be his owners, so hopefully he can be reunited with his true family!
