I have been plagued by gophers for many years. I used to play with them when I was a child. Sit by their mound with a newly opened hole and wait for them to come up with more dirt. With patience and good thoughts, soon they would be sitting in front of me. From there they would end up in my lap with me petting and scratching them. Guess that's why I have such a difficult time killing them.
