Besides a difference in light intensity/value, the lack of humidity is what really separates growing outside from growing inside. In dry and desert-like areas that's not true, but for the vast majority of the US, our homes are dry. I have always lived in areas where there is central air and heat, and these central-units squeeze water out of our air constantly.
