Spring bulbs are great for beginners, especially hyacinths and daffodils because critters don't bother them. The first flowers I planted as a middle school kid were bulbs, and soon after my mother bought me my first gardening book that was all about bulbs, so they are near and dear to my heart

. Also being the first colorful blooms of spring, they're something so special to look forward to during winter.
