Spring bulbs are great for beginners, especially hyacinths and daffodils because critters don't bother them. The first flowers I planted as a middle school kid were bulbs, and soon after my mother bought me my first gardening book that was all about bulbs, so they are near and dear to my heart Lovey dubby . Also being the first colorful blooms of spring, they're something so special to look forward to during winter.
"...and don't think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It's quiet, but the roots are down there riotous." Rumi
