I was one of the first 300 contributors to the plant database!
Bailey (collie) hates the mailman with a passion - I'm not so sure that if I sent him after someone they would get licked Whistling

This happened while I wasn't home, which is weird in and of itself because I have a petsitter that comes to the house three times a day and the dogs were home. Probably a dumb drunk person late at night. The sundial cost several times what the owl did and weighs a lot less (probably only 5 pounds) and I had all of my potted but not yet planted hostas under a tree NOT fenced in 50 feet away. I won't do that again. Being from NYC, I should have known better. But, given the circumstances (only the owl was taken and it had the lowest monetary value of all the items in the front), I don't think it was a planned theft. Andy and I are going to walk the neighborhood tonight with Bailey and look for the owl, maybe knock on a few doors of the seedier rentals. A seedy rental a block away has a new looking nice frog granite statue that looks out of place (the house is a pit), they are my #1 suspects.

Colette, that is terrible what happened to you, much worse that my one statue. You have a big fence, I'm amazing someone went through all that trouble. As you said, it must have been planned. I would much rather lose one piece to a drunk than all my favorite pieces to a planned theft. It really sucks that any of us should have to worry about garden pieces going missing, but I guess that is the world we live in. Glare

Karen, I did go out and bought a very cute granite galapagos turtle to replace the owl - in a secure location. When I was in St. Louis last week I bought a granite owl at the botanical center to be a "buddy" for my owl. Imagine my horror when I went to the pond and saw that the owl wasn't there.

Andy tore apart the neighborhood looking for it while I just sat in the garden and cried.
