I had already looked and rules out most everything that blooms in the winter. I know I did not have a camera with me but the plant looks just like the one in my first post. Four petals, looks like a wild or native type of Clematis, nothing fancy at all.
If it doesn't rain I'll try to get pictures.

So far the closest I can find is Clematis armandii (native to China) but the one I saw has four skinny petals. I only got a quick look at there were cars and trucks whizzing by. Maybe early Sunday morning would be a safer time to check and try for photos...any cuttings. Thumbs up
