I also love the big 'Macho' fern, but it has to be brought in or protected during even our mild winters. So I almost have to restart it every year.

That is why I prefer ferns that can pretty much hold there own out in the garden like the Autumn ferns.
I do have a couple of different types of Japanese painted ferns, but I would be hard pressed to tell them apart if they were not labeled.
