Marilyn - that's a nice Regal Splendor. I think mine is too close to my Linden tree and I've noticed over the years that the hostas too close to that tree don't reach their potential. I'm trying to determine a better location for mine so that I can move it.

As far as slugs, I have some copper mesh netting that I cut and use around some of the most vulnerable hostas and it seems to help. But mostly I use ammonia and water early in the season and then again as needed during the season. Early in the season, if dumped at the base of the hostas, it will kill hiding adults as well as eggs. 1 part ammonia : 10 parts water
