I am using vinca minor under a lilac in my front perennial bed, and vinca major under my driveway shrub border. Love them both. V. major gets a bit aggressive, but where it is sited it can pretty much just colonize at will - beyond the shrub border is our front pasture, not currently being used by any animals, and the shrubs are almost all mature so they can hold their own against the vinca.
