Yes it is. I had one small one which was in the ground for several years. (I had a small strip of real dirt)

I had tried to grow Sempervivums in that area but was told it was a lost cause because of the intense shade. So it was suggested that I try to clear the area (it is all river rock) and try planting some proven shade plants in a newly created planting bed.

For several reasons I did not get the bed cleared and planted so I kept the Hostas I purchased in pots.

Am waiting to see how they do and hope to get the planting bed created soon. Not a great shot but does show some of the area I am working with (townhouse entry) HOA ok'ed my plans but $$ got in the way last year.
