I think that may have been the cause of some of my issues as well. Thankfully, i took 20 or 30 cuttings so i shouldn't have a problem keeping the plant alive. I didn't leave mine outside, but the symptoms Purplebloomcactus described are very similiar to my plant. At this point, hoping to see some more life out of the original plant, but have cuttings just in case!
