Do not mean to cause confusion, but when I have soaked my seeds. Only for 1 or 2 hrs. They can still be floating and this has not given any thought of unviable seeds. I have heard this a long time ago, but I would not hold to to a stead fast rule of thumb. The soaking just aids in the stratification process and reduced the time it would take for natural process of softening the casing.
