I hadn't even thought about using it for a group buy, but I can sure see that working.
Greenthumb has been giving this some thought, so hopefully he'll chime in.
@dave Do you like this idea at all (eg, would you be willing to consider developing/implementing it)? Should we start a separate thread to discuss a possible "plant swaps" tool?
