I had assorted batches of seedlings from seeds I was sent by other hybridizers. They were in my greenhouse on the lower racks close to the floor. Plants above shaded them from too much light (natural). I started them in plastic boxes that had held fresh spinach from the store.
I used Pro Mix for the medium and at first covered them a little leaving the edges open but within a short time it became apparent I didn't need to do that in the greenhouse. They grew nicely until they were about 2 months old. Then slowly they began to die off. I suspect fungus gnats which I was battling in the other plants in there (daylilies). Being little seedlings they weren't strong enough to take it.
I also had a batch of seeds I had crossed the year before. They were hybrids of an unregistered large blue and Francis Williams. Of 30 seeds in the pod 27 sprouted. Of those 27 12 grew to move outside and the next spring only 6 had made it to that point. Due to upheaval in my life I don't know how they fared after that.
