Sondra, do you have the "Kindle Keyboard" ? That's what I have, and I'm not sure this fix will work with the other older Kindle that doesn't have the keyboard, but if not you can check on Amazon for help. This is what I've done several times:
"Many issues with your Kindle Keyboard, including a frozen screen or issues with downloading content, can be solved by restarting your device. Restarting your device involves turning your Kindle Keyboard off and on.
Slide and hold the Power button for a full 40 seconds.
After the first 6 to 8 seconds, the screen will go blank, which is normal. Continue holding the Power button.
After the 40 seconds, release the Power button.
The charge indicator light will turn on after a few seconds."
(also -- I'm assuming that you tried charging it? LOL)
