I have to plant them as a fall crop here, because it gets too warm too quickly in spring for them to mature. If they grow in warm weather they have a really strong flavor and are tough. Even when I lived in Utah I had that problem with them.

Mind you, this fall it stayed warm through December so that wasn't all that great for cool-loving crops either.
