I found that planting whites and creamy colored flowers with or near them, seemed to calm things down a lot. Over time, I have tried to add blue colored flowers. I was afraid to jump in with a lot of colors at once because I thought the beds would look like fire pits.
I think that kind of approach would work with adding red flowers to the garden.
